An oratory contest is a chance for high schoolers to verbally articulate and defend the sanctity of life. Being an oratory contestant was a huge formative experience for this year's organizer, Mila Nyeholt, and she is excited to bring this experience to other young people.
Students interested in learning more or entering the contest can reach Mila at 586-229-3676 or email her at milanyeholt@gmail.com.
Contestants will research, write, and make a 5- to 7-minute speech on one of these topics: Abortion, Infanticide, Euthanasia, or Human Cloning/Embryonic Stem Cell Research.
Cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded to the top three as determined by our panel of judges. There is a good chance of winning some cash to help out for college or other expenses, as the field will be limited to just nine students.
Our judges are:
- KEN GOIKE, a former Representative in the Michigan House and current member of the Armada Fair Board
- JEANNE LANGLOIS, who was a long-time debate coach with Christian Communicators of America
- MARGIE BERNIA, 8th grade teacher from St. Augustine School in Richmond
Who can enter? This local contest is free to enter and open to all students who are in 8th through 12th grade. The registration deadline is March 22, 2025. It is not necessary that you live in Macomb County.
First-place may represent Macomb County in Right to Life of Michigan's Statewide Oratory Contest in East Lansing on April 26!
NOTE: You must be in 9th grade or older to participate in the state contest.
